Arts Sessions at the TrueCity Conference


There are three sessions at the upcoming TrueCity conference which will explore the role of the arts in our churches and city.

TrueCity Arts Opportunities


TrueCity is a movement of churches in the Hamilton area committed to authentic involvement and real cooperation. Together we are exploring ways to facilitate shared learning, resource discovery, and collaborative projects so that our churches participate more fully and effectively in seeking the peace of our city.

Recognizing the vital role of the arts in our city, our churches want to learn and collaborate in encouraging artistic expression. As a means to this end, TrueCity is sponsoring an art exhibit entitled— Visions of the City for visual arts and a Coffeehouse entitled—Sounds of the City for the performing arts.

The goal of this exhibit and coffeehouse is to celebrate life in Hamilton and the vibrant role of the arts here. Our hope is that this exhibit and coffeehouse will draw forth a variety of images and acts from the many cultural and Christian perspectives which are present in our city. These events will take place at the TrueCity conference:

Sounds of the City–Call for Entry


The Coffeehouse is open to all musicians, poets, storytellers, and performers.  A panel of judges will select the artists to perform at the coffeehouse.

Musicians must submit a CD or DVD recording of their music, and a written description of the musician(s), including past recordings, a brief history of the artist(s), and an artist’s statement (no longer than one page please). Any other press package material about the musician(s) is acceptable as well.

Poets and storytellers must submit two copies of each piece of work. A one-page description of the performer is also required, including an artist’s statement and history of performance. Any other press material is acceptable as well.

Lyrics and content must be appropriate. In the event of inappropriate subject matter, artists may be declined at the discretion of the judges.

Submissions for work to be performed at the Coffeehouse give permission for a performer to be photographed and used in TrueCity publicity material and to be shown in the TrueCity on-line gallery.

TrueCity will not be responsible for any damage done to any equipment or instruments.

Selected performers may sell CDs and merchandise at the Coffeehouse. In the event of a sale, a contribution by the artist of 10% of the sale price to TrueCity is requested.

Instructions for Submissions:1) CDs and DVDs must be clearly marked with the artists’ name, titles of songs, and dates.2) Entries of poetry or story must include the writer’s name, performer’s name (if different from writer), title of work, and date of work at the top right corner of the page. Entries of 2 or more pages must be numbered.3) Entries must be delivered in protective packaging to:

Visions of the City–Call for Entry


Visions of the City is open to all artists. Work may be of any medium—painting, drawing, photograph, mixed media, sculpture, film, etc. All work must be original. Each artist may submit up to three pieces for consideration.

This is not a juried show but in the event of an excessive amount of work or inappropriate subject matter, work may be declined at the discretion of the curator.

Entry in the exhibit gives permission for an artwork to be photographed and used in TrueCity publicity material and to be shown in the TrueCity on-line gallery.

Artists entering work, do so at their own risk and TrueCity will not be responsible for any damage done to a piece in transit or when on display.

Works may be available for sale with the artists permission. In the event of a sale, a contribution by the artist of 20% of the sale price to TrueCity is requested.

3-D works must be accompanied by proper pedestals and/or display mounts all of which are the responsibility of the artist. Work selected for the show must be available for the exhibition at Philpott and for subsequent venues.

Instructions1) Each entry must be clearly marked with the title, artist name, size, medium and date of work.2) All work must be ready for hanging or viewing.3) Each artist must submit a brief artists statement about his or her piece.4) Entries must be delivered in protective packaging to:
